Grandville whose true name was Jean Iganace Isadore Gerard was famed for his imaginative artwork, many of these caricatures of women, but also ranging into nineteenth century political satire. This print is taken from Grandville's 1867 work, Les Fleurs Animees, an octavio with 54 leaves of plates produced as hand-colored, etched steel engravings.
